The fundamental meaning of the Greek words for disciple, as used in the Bible, is “a learner” (mathetes) and “to become a student” (matheteus). Sages, prophets, and teachers have considered discipleship a lifelong process, which is not easy. But we can learn more quickly by listening to the wisdom of others.
