It is said that George Washington’s greatest accomplishments were not things he did, but two things he refused to do. First, when all seemed lost at Valley Forge, he refused to give up. Second, when all was won at the end of the Revolution, he refused to become a king. Dr. Peter Lillback and Dr. Steven Grant visit Washington’s statue at Valley Forge and explain the subtle symbolism in the sculpture which beautifully gives us insight, not into Washington the great general, but into Washington the humble man.
