An old saying encourages us to “never meet your heroes.” Most likely, they will not meet our expectations, and our image of them will often become tainted. In reality, every Bible hero was broken and yet used by God. While we remember King David for his strength, humility, and spirituality, his story also includes adultery, abuse of power, and murder. This episode shows us that the hero is neither a good shepherd boy nor a flawed monarch—the real hero is God. Our benevolent Father who demonstrates time and time again how He works miraculously through imperfect, broken people like David… and each of us.
